Melania Trump Makes Important Announcement About Her Payroll

Although Melania Trump may be accepting more on her plate as First Lady when compared to Michelle Obama, she isn't accepting more staff and a bigger budget. In fact, Trump announced on Friday that she will be reducing the number of aids, meaning that she will be running one of the "leanest" East Wing Operations in recent American history, reports Fox News.

Fox reports that Melania Trump will be drastically slashing the number of aids in the first lady's office payroll, especially in comparison with her predecessor. During Obama's time as First Lady of the United States, a total of 16 people were listed working for her. They earned a combined $1.24 million per year.

Now, this year, there are only four people working in the East Wing for the First Lady of the United States. Their salaries total $486,700. In other words, it appears that Trump prioritizes having few workers of higher quality who are paid more.

It is well known that political figures often have "unofficial" advisors and employees who work for them. These unofficial employees are often not contained in reports detailing officials names of employees who are receiving a salary.

But according to Fox, even with these unofficial employees taken into consideration, Trump has a vastly smaller office than when compared to Obama.

And according to Trump's spokesperson, the approach is very intentional. She thinks it's the best way to get things done.

“As with all things that she does, she is being very deliberate in her hiring, focusing on quality over quantity,” communications director Stephanie Grisham said in an email, according to Fox. “It is important to her that the team is a good fit for what she wants to accomplish as the first lady, and that everyone works well together. She also wants to be mindful and responsible when it comes to taxpayer money.”

According to The Blaze, information on Trump's staff can be attained through the annual White House report to Congress that details the names, positions, and salaries of all personnel.
