Last year, First Lady Melania Trump chose to wear a white suit to her husband's State of the Union Address. Not so this year. In contrast to the Democratic women, who wore white in protest of President Trump, Melania stunned in a navy ensemble.
As the FLOTUS entered the Address to a standing ovation before President Donald Trump delivered his State of the Union Address, people were struck by her military-inspired Burberry coat.
Mrs. Trump collaborated on the ensemble with her close friend Hervé Pierre. She clearly chose the dark tone of the outfit to contrast the Democratic women who were wearing suffragette white.
This is the first lady's first public engagement since just after Christmas. Before the Address, she held a reception in the Diplomatic Room for their special guests, according to USA Today.
"Mrs. Trump knows this is an important night, and wants to ensure the experience of her guests is special, and that they feel comfortable," spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told CNN.
