Thousands of children were filled with joy on Monday, April 22nd as the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll event took place on the White House lawn. This is the 141st Egg Roll event, a special tradition that began under President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1878.
This year’s Easter celebration incorporated several new elements organized by First Lady Melania Trump’s office. Melania set up a station for kids to send postcards to friends, family and military members as a part of her “Be Best” initiative, reported ABC News. The First Lady also added a new game called “musical eggs,” which resembles musical chairs.
As per usual, some of the original traditions — such as the egg races and an Easter bunny in costume — remained a part of the event. A book was also read to the children in the Reading Nook, where kids snuggle up with blankets as they listen to the story.
All eyes were glued on Melania as she hosted Easter-related activities for the day. At the event, she wore a $5,000 pastel Michael Kors dress with nude Christian Louboutin flats.
President Donald Trump praised his wife for organizing the wonderful Easter celebration. He shared a sweet message to the public during his opening speech.
“I have to thank our First Lady,” Trump began as the crowd erupted with cheers and applause. “She worked so hard on this event and without her, it would not be like it is. It's as beautiful as I've ever seen it, so Thank you, Melania. Fantastic job. Thank you, honey!”
