On Thursday, May 10th, Republican Senator John McCain received an overwhelming amount of support from both sides of the political spectrum after White House aide Kelly Sadler mocked McCain’s brain cancer. According to NBC News, the White House did not directly acknowledge Sadler’s remark.
"It doesn't matter, he's dying anyway," Sadler allegedly said referring to McCain’s objection to the CIA director nominee during a White House communications meeting on Thursday.
McCain’s wife, Cindy McCain, fired back at Sadler via social media, “May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren.”
However, McCain’s daughter, Meghan McCain, had a very different reaction. While responding to the fiasco on “The View” during Friday’s show, the typical firecracker responded in a Biblical sense with grace.
“Don’t feel bad for me or my family," Meghan responded. "We’re really strong. There’s so much more love and prayer and amazing energy being generated towards us than anything negative at all."
"I feel so blessed. My dad’s actually doing really well right now and I believe in the power of prayer," she added. "I think it’s helping. I want to thank all of the positivity of people with that."
The conservative icon continued with a direct message for the White House aide: “Kelly...we’re all dying. I’m dying. You’re dying. We’re all dying. Since my dad has been diagnosed...I really feel like I understand the meaning of life. It is not how you die, it is how you live."
At the end of her statement, she praised her father for the values he has instilled in their family and for believing in Americans having the capability to come together again. Additionally, she implied that Kelly should be fired for her remarks because it was an unacceptable comment to make in a professional work environment.
“The thing that surprises me most is...I don’t understand what kind of environment you’re working in when that would be acceptable and then you can come to work the next day and still have a job,” Meghan ended.
After Meghan’s remarks, the other co-hosts offered words of encouragement to Meghan and praised Senator McCain for his patriotism. It was a truly refreshing moment on the show over the usual bickering between the conservative voice and her liberal co-hosts.
