Medical Company Issues Massive Recall After Terrifying Threat Discovered

September 05, 2017Sep 05, 2017

A major manufacturing company has just issued a huge product recall. Abbott has issued a recall for one of the most vital products.

465,000 pacemakers are being recalled after the discovery of a terrifying new problem. According to reports, the pacemaker devices could potentially be infiltrated by hackers who could take over the device.

If hacked, the device could then be altered or even switched off. Thousands of people are at risk at this time.

"All industries need to be constantly vigilant against unauthorized access," Robert Ford, executive vice president for medical devices at Abbott, said in a statement.  "This isn't a static process, which is why we're working with others in the healthcare sector to ensure we're proactively addressing common topics to further advance the security of devices and systems."

The pacemakers included are the Accent, Anthem, Accent MRI, Accent ST, Assurity and Allure. Abbott was also formerly known as St. Jude’s Medical.

While the terrifying scenario of a hacked pacemaker is completely possible, there have been no reports at this time. Please let everyone you know that has a pacemaker aware of the recall.
