Matt Lauer was one of the most famous, and recognizable, hosts on television. He anchored the Today program for years and was a true legend in the industry. Now, he has fallen from the spotlight after news broke concerning his alleged misconduct.
In recent months, Lauer has kept a relatively low profile. Some people speculated that he would never return to television again.
However, a top official for CNN is now speaking out about Lauer. Jeff Zucker publicly addressed rumors about Matt returning to TV and coming to the CNN network.
"The rumors started raging after Page Six exclusively revealed last month that Lauer had come out of seclusion in the Hamptons to attend Zucker’s magic-themed 54th birthday bash at NYC’s McKittrick Hotel, alongside current CNN stars, including Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo. A relaxed-looking Lauer was seen laughing and chatting with Zucker at the celebration," reported Fox.
Zucker says it's not happening.
"CNN boss Jeff Zucker has been forced to address online rumors that disgraced anchor Matt Lauer was making his TV comeback on the news network — telling all employees, 'there is absolutely no truth at all in the reports that Matt is coming to CNN,'" according to Fox.
The idea may have been tested at the network. However, numerous female employees say they refused to work with Lauer and would not do it if he was hired. Some wonder if he can ever return to broadcasting again given his reputation today.
