NFL wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, Marquise Goodwin, shared devastating news that occurred over the weekend. Goodwin and his wife, Morgan, lost their baby boy that they were so happily expecting to arrive sometime next year.
The couple originally announced their pregnancy back in September. Goodwin posted a photo of him and his wife holding a picture of the ultrasound with the bible verse Psalm 127:3, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.”
In an Instagram post late Sunday evening, Goodwin announced, “Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable.”
Additionally, the football star thanked everyone who has been praying for his family and asked his followers for continued prayer during this tragic time.
Despite the heartbreaking news, Goodwin still played in Sunday night’s games against the New York Giants, assisting in their first win of the 2017 season. In the beginning of the second quarter, Goodwin caught an 83-yard touchdown, putting them in the lead with a score of 10 to 6, reported CBS.
As Goodwin ran into the end zone, he blew a kiss towards the sky, then immediately dropped to his knees and did the “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” motion. He also took the football in his hands and appeared to be thanking God in prayer before his face dropped to the ground and his teammates surrounded him with pats and hugs—it was clearly an emotional moment, resembling more than just an amazing play.
At the time of the play, the public was unaware of the news regarding his unborn son, but it seems as though his team may have known—immediately comforting and supporting Goodwin as he became emotional on the field.

Please keep Marquise Goodwin and his family in your prayers today. In other breaking news, a former lead rock band singer recently passed away.
