Disturbing Details Emerge in Death of 3-Year-Old Mariah Woods, Body Found Stuffed in Couch Cover

A 3-year-old girl from North Carolina, Mariah Woods, sparked nationwide attention last November after she was reported missing by her mother. Initially, authorities believed the young child was abducted from her bedroom in the middle of the night — sparking a massive search.

As previously reported, Mariah’s mother first told local police she checked on the child one evening around 11:00 PM, then her boyfriend, Earl Kimrey, reportedly checked on the child for the second time around midnight. The next morning when they woke up, Mariah was gone.

An in-depth investigation eventually led to the tragic discovery of Mariah’s remains in a nearby creek, which suddenly transitioned the search into a homicide case. Kimrey was soon arrested in connection with the child’s murder.

He faced several charges including concealing of death, obstruction of justice, first-degree murder, and felonious child abuse. At his most recent court date, Kimrey pled not guilty to all charges.

Previously, an autopsy report revealed that the child’s cause of death was confirmed to be “chloroform toxicity.” As of July 19th, 2018, it is still unclear how the child ingested a large amount of chloroform.

However, on July 18th, a new autopsy report revealed more disturbing details about the child’s murder case. According to PEOPLE, the body was discovered wrapped inside of three plastic trash bags and a zippered couch cushion cover.

The cover contained a chunk of cement inside — likely used as a weight, so the cover would stay at the bottom of the creek.

This story is still developing as the investigation moves forward. Additional details are expected to to be released in upcoming months.

In the meantime, please continue to pray for the family during this difficult time. May God comfort Mariah’s loved ones!
