3-year-old Mariah Woods from North Carolina grabbed nationwide attention after she was reported missing by her mother at the end of November. Initially, authorities were led to believe that the young child was abducted from her bedroom in the middle of the night.
Mariah’s mother told police that she checked on the child, who has a walking disability, Sunday evening around 11:00 PM, then her boyfriend checked on the child around midnight. The next morning when they woke up, she was gone.
An Amber Alert was immediately issued, hoping to find Mariah as quickly as possible. However, as the investigation continued, suspicions arose that Mariah was actually dead.
Early Saturday morning, December 2nd, authorities announced that an arrest was made in connection to the Mariah Woods investigation. The boyfriend of Mariah’s mother, Earl Kimery, was detained on Friday in relation to the child’s disappearance and charged with concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny, and possession of stolen property.
Later that day, a little girl’s remains were found in a creek 25 miles away from her home. The body has not yet been officially identified, but according to CBS News, authorities are confident that it is Mariah.
The FBI released the following statement:
"It was too late to save Mariah the moment the 911 call came in. The arrest warrants are public record and the records speaks for themselves. We will not discuss any details related to the homicide investigation."
Previously, Mariah’s biological father Alex Woods questioned the mother’s abduction story. He told the media that the details “didn’t add up,” and admitted that he believed the mom or her boyfriend hurt his precious daughter and are covering it up.
