Pets have a special place in our hearts. For many people, their pets are actually loved family members and are huge parts of their lives.
For one man, he took the word "pet" a little too far. Reports are coming in from the Czech Republic that one man was keeping a pet lion in his backyard so that he could use the animal for breeding.
However, things turned ugly when the "pet lion" reportedly attacked and killed the man, named as Michal Prasek. He was found mauled to death by the giant, exotic animal.
"In addition to the lion, Prasek had another lioness on his property for breeding purposes, which had drawn concerns from local residents. The animals, which were in separate pens, were shot and killed by authorities. A police officer told local media the shootings were 'absolutely necessary for them to get to the man,'" according to the BBC.
Michal had purchased the lion and a lioness in recent years. He had also been fined in the past for illegally breeding the animals.
"Authorities were not allowed to forcibly remove the lions in the past because they did not have a safe place to put them, nor was there any evidence of animal cruelty – another reason the animals could have been taken," reported Fox.
This isn't the first time that Michal has made the news for incidents involving his lions. In 2018 he made headlines after walking his "pet lion" and being struck by a cyclist that was passing by.
