While Florida is known for having wonderful weather and some of the most amazing beaches on the entire planet, the tourist hotspot is also known for being home to some crazy wildlife.

Now, a man from Florida is making national news after his run-in with a snake. According to reports, the man captured a gigantic python that measured 17 feet long!

"The serpent, a Burmese python, was captured by Homestead resident Kyle Penniston, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) said in a Wednesday news release," Fox News reported.

The snake was so large it even set some records! It was the third largest snake to be captured and measured by officials. It weighed in at a whopping 120 pounds!

The snake was euthanized in accordance with the SFWMD program. Their goal is to help restore a balanced environment and protect other animals that snakes typically feed upon.

"The program helps to eliminate the 'invasive' species from the Everglades ecosystem, as Burmese pythons there have “decimated native populations of wildlife,” the SFWMD said. Professional pythons hunters, as selected by program officials, are allowed to go on district-owned lands to hunt and then 'humanely euthanize' the creatures," reports state.
