A terrifying incident has just left over 1,000 people dead. The death toll is also expected to rise as crews work through the devastation.

According to reports, a massive cyclone swept through Mozambique over the weekend. It is said to be the largest cyclone to ever hit the country.

"Filipe Nyusi said Cyclone Idai had caused mass devastation and predicted the current death toll of 84 would rise enormously. Speaking to state radio after flying over the port city of Beira and viewing the flooding and devastation, Nyusi said he saw bodies floating in the flooded areas. As the crisis mounted one charity said it was 'possibly the deadliest cyclone ever recorded in the region,'" according to reports.

The storm cut off electricity in much of the area and people on the ground are struggling to find supplies and relief. The Red Cross estimates that 90 percent of the massive city of Beira was badly damaged or destroyed. 500,000 live in the area and many were unprepared for the cyclone.

1.5 million people have been affected by the incident around the region. The storm first hit Mozambique before moving throughout Zimbabwe and Malawi. Heavy rains caused water levels to rise and the impact of the flooding was seen across the area.

Now, the country has declared that there will be 3 official days of mourning. Crews are still working around the clock to rescue anyone who may still be trapped from the storm of the massive flooding that is now taking place.

"Challenges remain in terms of the search and rescue of thousands of people, including children," UNICEF said. "It estimated that 260,000 children were at risk in Mozambique. The Red Cross has said at least 400,000 people have been made homeless in central Mozambique alone," reported NBC News.

Local reporters on the ground say that food and supplies are running low. The country is a low-lying coastal town and is in serious need of help, especially as the flood waters rise.

Please join us in praying for everyone who was impacted by this deadly storm. We pray that find comfort through our Lord as they heal from this tragedy. Please also join us in praying for the relief efforts of all the workers who are combing through the debris.
