A major store closure is affecting customers in America. The popular store J.C. Penney has announced they are taking things a step further and closing even more stores. In prior years, J.C. Penney has closed dozens of locations across the nation.
"J.C. Penney said it's closing a large distribution center as the retailer's footprint no longer justifies properties built decades ago. Also, a holiday season review of its store fleet has resulted in eight stores closing," according to reports.
The distribution center is currently based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are also going to be closing a customer care center this summer. In that closure, J.C. Penney announced they will attempt to transfer some employees to another center.
Overall, things are not looking up for employees of the retail store. 670 total jobs are expected to be lost due to this massive new development.
"It’s never easy taking actions that directly impact our valued associates, however, we feel this is a necessary business decision," a spokesperson said. "Eligible associates will receive separation benefits, including outplacement support and an on-site career training class. The class will assist associates in writing resumes, filling out applications, answering interview questions and more."
