The famed pastor and evangelical legend, Billy Graham, peacefully passed away on Wednesday morning. It was reported that he died at his home in the early morning hours, surrounded by his family.
At the time of his death, Graham was 99 years old. His 100th birthday was due this November. Recently, Franklin Graham revealed he had been battling some health issues.
Since his death, an outpouring of love, appreciation, and admiration for Billy has poured in from across the world. During his time as a preacher, Graham was able to preach the Gospel on numerous continents and changed millions of lives. He even mentored numerous sitting U.S. presidents.
"Graham’s influence on key religious leaders, institutions, political activism and cultural engagement helped shape a large chunk of America," wrote the Washington Post.
Now, a major announcement has just been announced about an amazing honor Graham will be receiving. According to major news outlets, Graham's body will lie in honor at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
"Evangelist Billy Graham, who died Wednesday, will lie in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda from Wednesday, Feb. 28, to Thursday, March 1, according to an announcement from House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky). Members of the public are invited to pay their respects. Ryan and McConnell will take part in a service upon the arrival of Graham’s casket," wrote the Washington Post.
After spending time at the U.S. Capitol, Graham's body will be transported back to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. He will be buried in a prayer garden on the site of the library, next to his wife, Ruth.
