Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have released a bill Monday afternoon aimed at repealing Obama’s highly controversial Affordable Care Act.
According to The Hill, the bill strikes at the core of Obamacare by repealing the mandate that everyone must obtain health insurance.
Instead of subsidizing universal health care with a system that is unsustainable, Republicans are proposing tax credits — between $2,000 and 4,000 a year — to help people buy health insurance if they want it.
The bill also phases out the planned Medicaid expansion.
Democrats are already complaining that fewer people will be covered, but GOP lawmakers are pointing out that that’s the point — people won’t be required to buy health insurance anymore.
The House is expected to vote on the bill later this week, according to The Hill.
