New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries, Lysa TerKeurst, just gave an incredibly inspiring update on her life.
The influential Christian had a tough couple of years. She fought with breasted cancer in her 40s and she underwent a double mastectomy to prevent reoccurrence,
During that time, she also faced the end of her marriage. In a blog post, she revealed that after 25 years, her marriage was ending due to her husband's repeated infidelity and substance abuse.
In the blog post, she said she had fought to save her marriage. However, she found her efforts could not solve the problem, and she said she had no choice but to “release him to the Savior" and seek a divorce.
In her post, she showed that she was turned to God. She asked people to pray for her, Art, and their family.
“I’d simply ask you to pray,” she said. “Pray for my precious children and grandchildren. Pray for me. Pray for our team at Proverbs 31. And yes, please, please pray for Art.”
The end of Lysa's marriage rocked the women's community that she led. Many women wondered if Lysa's marriage couldn't make it, then was anyone else's marriage safe?
Over a year and a half later, TerKeurst announced the amazing news that she and her ex-husband, art, are back together. They just celebrated their vow renewal, crediting God with bringing them back together.
TerKeurst used Instagram and photos from her vow renewal to announce the reconciliation.
She wrote, “On an unusually sunny Tuesday in December, we dressed up a bit and whispered healing words, heartfelt promises, and holy vows." She added, “A million prayers. A miracle answer. A marriage restored.”
In a subsequent post, she shared their journey back together. It's an amazing change given her resignation to the end of their marriage only a year earlier.
“Never doubt we serve a God who still does miracles,” she wrote. “In the middle of the work He did from the devastation in my marriage nothing looked like I hoped and everything felt impossible. I prayed a million suggestions to God that never ever came to be. And the number of tears shed in the process about leaked the life out of me. But all the while when I saw nothing, God was doing something. And in His way and His timing, new life came.”
She continued, “No matter how impossible that miracle you are praying for seems, please trust that only God knows the full story. He is working. He is hearing and shifting and intervening and convicting and stirring and doing what only He can do.”
She concluded, “God does some of His best work in the unseen.”
She also shared a sweet photo of her family happy together. It was clear that they were overjoyed to have their parents back together again.
Their daughter Ashley made it clear how joyous and thankful she was for the day they thought would never come. She took to social media to share a photo.
“My rocks. My heroes. Gods miracle in motion,” she wrote. “The best redemption story there ever was. My parents, together, forever again!”
