Tensions continue to rise in relation to the startling college admissions scandal involving several prestige colleges and 50+ elite people. Actresses Felicity Huffman from “Desperate Housewives” and Lori Loughlin from “Full House” are the two most widely recognized names involved in the high-profile scandal.

While Huffman apologized for bribing SAT officials to boost her daughter's score, Loughlin has yet to release a public statement of remorse. A source close to the “Fuller House” star revealed that Loughlin does not realize the seriousness of her actions.

Recently, she drew mass criticism from fans after she tried to justify bribing her two daughters into USC. According to Loughlin, what she did was something that “any mom would do” if they were in her position.

“It’s just taking some time for it to sink in that what she was allegedly doing could be considered illegal,” the source told PEOPLE. “To her, it wasn’t egregious behavior. Was it entitled and perhaps selfish? Perhaps. But she didn’t see it as being a legal violation.”

“From the beginning, she didn’t want to take a deal, because she felt that she hadn’t done anything that any mom wouldn’t have done if they had the means to do so,” the source added. “So this wasn’t her being obstinate; this was her truly not understanding the seriousness of the allegations.”

According to E! News, Loughlin was convinced the DA was bluffing. The main reason why she refused to accept a deal was that she was certain she wouldn't be given jail time. She and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, were adamant about not serving time in prison.

However, their plan backfired because they were hit with additional charges after they refused the initial deal of 2 years in prison. The couple now faces up to a hefty 40-year prison sentence. Although, it is unlikely that they will get locked up for this amount of time.

To date, Loughlin and her husband have still not entered a plea. Actress Huffman recently pleaded guilty to the charges against her and will likely serve less than a year in prison.
