On Tuesday, March 12th, the FBI went public with a shocking news report confirming that at least 50 people were facing criminal charges in a college bribery scam. As previously reported, people reportedly paid large amounts of money — $25 million collectively — in order to get their children into the college of their choice.
Among the 33 elite parents who paid bribes include actresses Lori Loughlin, 54, and Felicity Huffman, 56. The mastermind behind the entire scam was a college counselor named William Singer, who bribed college officials with the parents’ funds.
Loughlin, who is famously known as “Aunty Becky” from “Full House” and the spin-off series “Fuller House,” was officially arrested. She was taken into custody on Wednesday, March 13th in Los Angeles, California.
She, among the other elite bribers, are being charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. According to Jeff Weiner Criminal Defense Attorney, this act is punishable up to a $250,000 fine and a possibility of up to 20 years in prison. However, it is unlikely that the parents will face prison time.
“The couple [Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli] allegedly agreed in July 2016 to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for getting their two daughters into the University of Southern California as purported crew athletes, even neither were athletes and both were clueless about crew,” reported USA Today.
The "Fuller House" star was released shortly after her arrest. Her bond was set at $1 million. Additionally, the judge set travel restrictions and her passport is expected to be revoked after her current film projects are complete.
Loughlin was trending on Twitter immediately after the news broke. Donald Trump Jr. was one of many who reacted to the college admissions scandal; read his epic reaction here.
