After Drone Sighting, Airport Stops All Departing Flights to ‘Prevent Any Threat,’ Investigation Underway

On Tuesday evening local time, Heathrow Airport in London stopped all departing flights after a drone sighting was reported. The departures were reportedly halted out of precautionary measure.

According to CNN, a local spokesperson released the following statement in regards to the incident:

"We are responding to a drone sighting at Heathrow and are working closely with the Met Police to prevent any threat to operational safety. As a precautionary measure, we have stopped departures while we investigate. We apologise to passengers for any inconvenience this may cause."

An investigation is underway by the Metropolitan Police Department.

This news comes shortly after drone sightings were also reported at Gatwick Airport in England, which resulted in flight delays for more than 32 hours.
