The actor who played Gomer Pyle on "The Andy Griffith Show" has passed away. Jim Nabors has died at the age of 87.

Nabors later went on to star in his own spin-off show, "Gomer Pyle." He was a wonderful actor and an exceptional singer. Fans and friends took to social media on Thursday to express their condolences after his loss.

Nabors was most recently living in Hawaii. However, he was born in Alabama and raised in Sylacauga, Alabama. Later in his life, he moved to California and was working at a nightclub in Santa Monica when he was discovered by talent executives, according to reports.

After acting, Nabors also turned to the music industry and became a successful singer. He starred in many variety shows over the years and even performed “Back Home Again in Indiana” during the opening ceremonies for the Indianapolis 500.

Nabors married his longtime partner in 2013 in Seattle, Washington. Nabors and Stan Cadwallader had been together for over 38 years at the time.

“I’m 82 and he’s in his 60s and so we’ve been together for 38 years and I’m not ashamed of people knowing, it’s just that it was such a personal thing, I didn’t tell anybody,” Nabors told Hawaii News Now. “I’m very happy that I’ve had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I’m just very happy.”
