Reading the scriptures is a task that is usually reserved for adults. At least, that’s what most people think.

David DeFigueiredo, only four-and-a-half years old, knows the true meaning of Christmas.
Becky Dayton DeFigueiredo was asked by a friend if David could perform a live narration. Becky asked David to read the verses twice each morning and night. This was to prepare him for the task.
Becky was confident that David would become more comfortable reading the scriptures if she gave him enough practice. The boy was able to read the scriptures without the paper. This surprised Becky, who was shocked to discover that her son no longer needed it. That’s because David had already memorized the story word-for-word!
The young boy was able without any help to recite the gospel from Luke, chapter 2, verses 6-16.
Clad in his red sweater and standing in front of their Christmas tree, David began narrating the story of Jesus’ birth.
“Luke 2, 6 through 16… And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn,” he began.
He continues telling the story with ease…
“And there were, in the same country, shepherds abiding in the fields keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord come upon them and the glory of the Lord shone around about them.”
Even though most of us know the story well, it is still special and meaningful when a child tells the tale.
David certainly didn’t need a guide. He just kept going.
“And they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not! You see, I bring you good tidings and great joy that will be to all people. Christ the Lord was born to you this day in the city David. And this shall be a sign unto you…”
Excluding priests and pastors, I bet most adults don’t have this story memorized, which makes David’s accomplishment even more impressive.
Becky felt so proud of her son that she couldn’t help but share the video of David’s narration on Facebook. The post has received over 69K responses so far. Viewers were quick to comment on the post to praise the boy for his great work.
