One of the most spectacular events in the country has just come to a close. After some worrisome forecasts, the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta was a smashing success!
For those unfamiliar with the event, the Balloon Fiesta is the biggest hot air balloon celebration in the world. Each year, over a million people come to witness the sights as hundreds of balloons take to the sky at once! Even with the weather being less than ideal, this year was an amazing display.
“Anytime we have a safe event and an event where we fly a majority of the time, those are two fantastic things,” said Ty Young, president of the Balloon Fiesta Board of Directors. “We’re very happy with it.”
As technology advances, so do security measures. To make sure no person flew a drone close to the balloon, the festival created a system to confront drone pilots in the air and direct them away from the balloons. Community members were also encouraged to mark their property with large "X" marks so pilots could land balloons safely if they needed to.
Below are some of the best images of the Fiesta taken from social media. It was truly fantastic! Even Chip and Joanna Gaines were in attendance!
