Getting real. One year after the success of Fox’s The O.C.MTV took a look inside the actual town before launching Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County2004. The reality show centered on the lives and relationships of high school seniors at the time. Stephen Colletti, Lauren Conrad, Kristin Cavallari, Lo BosworthMore.
Conrad was the narrator for the first season. The main storyline focused on the love triangle she formed with Cavallari, Colletti and others. Season 2 was Conrad’s last season as the narrator. Cavallari replaced Conrad after Conrad moved to college. After Conrad’s season ended, a new group of actors was introduced. The show also got its first spinoff. The HillsFollowing Conrad and her best friend. Heidi MontagThey took on Los Angeles as their new normal and tried to make it in this city of dreams. Season 4 was over. HillsCast member Whitney PortShe landed her own spinoff The City, after she moved to New York City for her fashion career.
Laguna Beach was originally set to be a high school drama but was not allowed to film inside the actual high school, meaning that it was completely shifted to focus on the cast’s home life. “Two days after [casting]It was the Super Bowl. Janet Jackson’s boob revealed herself, thanks to a wardrobe malfunction and Justin Timberlake. This was a MTV halftime program. So they had to take the fall for everything that happened,” Colletti explained to Us WeeklyOnly in March “After that happened, the school board got together and they’re like, ‘No, no no, this is not happening. MTV, you’re off campus.’”
After season 3 Laguna BeachThe original cast was not available so the producers looked for a new location and launched a new spinoff. Newport Harbor: The Real Orange CountyUnfortunately, it lasted just 12 episodes.
MTV had a hit with the audience. The HillsThe show aired for six seasons between 2006 and 2010. Midway through season 5, Conrad decided to leave the show and Cavallari came in, taking over as the lead — much like she did on Laguna Beach. Many of the cast expressed their dismay at the reality show’s scripted nature after the series ended. In fact, the series finale played into this, as the final scene ended with the Hollywood sign moving behind it, revealing that the set was real.
In 2019, The Hills: New BeginningsMTV launched the show along with many of the original cast members. The Hills. The series did not include Conrad or Cavallari.
So, who’s still in touch today? Well, many have moved away from reality TV — but some are still in the same area.
“I still talk to a lot of people. The men that appeared on the show. Dieter [Schmitz]And Trey [Phillips] specifically, we’re still very close friends,” Colletti said. “Conrad and I, we’re usually down there around the Fourth of July and she’ll host people. She does a fantastic job hosting. Shocker!”
