Kentucky Governor Releases Official Statement on High School Shooting

On Tuesday morning, a great tragedy took place in the small town of Benton, Kentucky. A high school shooting occurred at Marshall County High school, killing at least one student and injuring several others.

Local authorities have confirmed that the suspect is in custody, but his or her identity has not yet been released to the public.

Currently, little details are known regarding this incident. It is unclear if the shooter was somehow connected to the school or an outsider, and additionally, a motive has not been revealed.

The Governor of Kentucky, Matt Bevin, responded to the tragedy shortly after news broke to the public. In his statement, Bevin encouraged people to love rather than making speculations.

“This is a tremendous tragedy and speaks to the heartbreak present in our communities,” he stated. “It is unbelievable this would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County.”

Bevin continued, “As there is still much unknown, I encourage people to love on each other at this time. Do not speculate, but come alongside each other in support and allow the facts to come out.”

This tragic news comes only one day after another shooting took place at a Texas high school.
