Television personality Kathie Lee Gifford, a co-host from TODAY, is well-known for her outspoken Christian faith. In recent days, Gifford made national headlines for her Biblical response to Billy Graham’s death and unloading the Gospel on Megyn Kelly’s show.
Gifford recently took another bold move in sharing God’s word with the world. On February 20th, the Christian talk show host appeared in a short film from the “I am Second” series by White Chair Film, which highlights Christian stars discussing their faith. In Gifford’s segment, she opened up about her childhood, the sudden death of her husband, and ultimately, her strong faith in God.
First, Gifford told her personal story of salvation. One day, she went to the movies to see the Billy Graham organization's first film, “The Restless Ones.” At the end of the showing, Gifford boldly walked down to the “altar call” to give her life to Jesus Christ.
“It was the greatest decision I ever made in my life,” she said.
Growing up in the entertainment industry, Gifford revealed there were some very difficult times. She faced a lot of rejection. During one movie audition, one of the casting crew members insulted her several times, but she left laughing.
Gifford added, “God made me that way...God wants us to sing our own song, write our own story, put on our own show; that’s the joy of living. I may admire another person, but I don’t want to be that person and miss out on being me. That’s the adventure of a lifetime.”
Later in the video, she touched on her late husband Frank Gifford. They were married for 29 years and had two children together before he died. Although his death was devastating, she “rejoiced” and “found peace” because she knew that “[Frank] saw Jesus and Jesus took his breath away.”
“Good took something horrible in my life and wove into something beyond-belief beautiful,” Gifford stated.
During this time and her other times of difficulties, she always stayed “fighting” with God instead of giving up. Even though she has lost a lot in life (by the world’s circumstances), she made the decision to focus on her blessings instead.
She continued, “Every single day if I wake up and I have a pulse, I have a purpose…[God] didn’t make a mistake with [me or] you.”
“My joy is non-negotiable. I tell you, that’s the beginning of bliss in life. You understand where joy comes from and then you protect it with everything in you. I want to be purposeful every day in my life, every moment of it...God is not the enemy of joy; He is the creator of joy. We got a lot to rejoice about.
“You want to fly? You want to soar? You want to dream big dreams and see them come true? You need to partner with the right person — only Jesus, only Jesus. I am Kathie Lee Gifford and I am second.”
