Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are now officially official as they make their Vogue cover debut as husband and wife.
In an interview with Vogue, Justin Bieber shared some surprising news. Alongside a series of photos of the pop star and his wife Hailey shot by legendary photographer Annie Leibovitz, Bieber opened up about their marriage.
The couple was legally married in September in New York City courthouse. They tied the knot after a two-month engagement.
In the interview, Bieber revealed that the couple abstained from sex until they were married. When Hailey and Justin started dating, Bieber had already made a commitment to God to remain celibate until he was married.
“[God] doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff,” says the singer. “He’s like, ‘I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain.’ I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that.”
After living the rockstar lifestyle, Bieber said he realized that he needed a change. He said he turned to God and that is when God made his life new.
“I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul,” Bieber adds. “And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior.”
Bieber admitted that fame had gotten to him. At first, he was just prideful about his success.
“I started really feeling myself too much. People love me, I’m the s— —that’s honestly what I thought. I got very arrogant and cocky. I was wearing sunglasses inside.”
He revealed that as his career went on, he grew further away from God. He started to engage in dangerous and immoral behavior.
“I found myself doing things that I was so ashamed of, being super-promiscuous and stuff, and I think I used Xanax because I was so ashamed,” the pop star admits. “My mom always said to treat women with respect. For me that was always in my head while I was doing it, so I could never enjoy it. Drugs put a screen between me and what I was doing. It got pretty dark.”
Bieber and Baldwin got married in 2018 after an on-again/off-again relationship. They got back together in June after the saw each other at a conference hosted by their pastor friend Rich Wilkerson, Jr.
Hailey Baldwin said that church was the thing that brought them together. It's also the thing that keeps them together, calling it "the common denominator."
"The common denominator, I promise you, is always church," Baldwin said. "By then we were past the drama. I just gave him a hug. By the end of the conference, he was like, ‘We’re not going to be friends.’ I was like, ‘We’re not?’"
What a beautiful testimony to the ability to make your life anew with God's help. May God bless and guide their marriage.
