In February, Joy Behar — a liberal co-host on “The View” — was under major heat after she mocked the Christian faith on national television. In an attempt to target Vice President Mike Pence’s faith and character, she ultimately ended up offending millions of Americans.
“It’s one thing to talk to Jesus. It’s another thing when Jesus talks to you. That’s called mental illness if I’m not correct, hearing voices,” Behar said referring to Pence.
As reported earlier, Behar and ABC stayed completely silent on the backlash and did not initially release an apology statement. The network also received more than 30,000 complaint calls about Behar’s comments that they refused to take action on.
Weeks later, several reports suggested that Behar apologized in private during a shareholder meeting. Additionally, Pence appeared in a Fox News interview on Monday, revealing that Behar personally called him to apologize. Pence felt her words were sincere, but he did encourage her to apologize to all Christians.
On Tuesday, Behar took Pence’s advice. In an episode of “The View,” Behar finally apologized to the public for her anti-Christian remarks.
“I think Vice President Pence is right. I was raised to respect everyone’s religious faith and I fell short of that. I sincerely apologize for what I said,” Behar stated.
