Hearts in Hollywood are breaking amidst the news regarding Academy-nominated director John Singleton’s declining health. Singleton is best-known for directing “Boyz n the Hood,” but worked on several other popular films including “2 Fast 2 Furious,” “Baby Boy,” “Shaft,” and “Poetic Justice.”
According to ABC News, Singleton’s family confirmed that he will officially be taken off life support later on April 29th. The sad news comes after the famed director was hospitalized for more than a week resulting from a stroke.
"It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today," the family said in a statement. "This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors."
"It is, for us, heartbreaking," the family added. "We are grateful to his fans, friends and colleagues for the outpouring of love and prayers during this incredibly difficult time."
Singleton will be survived by his parents and his six children: 26-year-old Justice, 25-year-old Maasai, 22-year-old Hadar, and 19-year-old Cleopatra. Names and ages of his other two children were not immediately released.
