Academy-nominated director John Singleton sadly passed away in April of 2019 after being taken off life support. The devastating news came after the famed director was hospitalized for more than a week resulting from a stroke.
According to TMZ, family members are reportedly “very suspicious” regarding certain details of Singleton’s death. The family has hired a private investigator to further look into the circumstances before he had the stroke.
It remains a mystery of how Singleton arrived at the hospital — days before he was on his death bed. It is known that he did not drive himself, was not taken by a close friend or family member, and there are no records of other modes of transportation.
Currently, few other details are known about the situation with the PI.
Amidst the new development in Singleton’s death, Sony Picture Entertainment renamed the former Backstage Theater in honor of the late filmmaker. The theatre is now called the John Singleton Theatre, reported the Hollywood Reporter.
“As the first African American filmmaker to earn an Academy Award nomination for best director, John broke a major barrier in our industry and inspired a generation,” Sony Picture’s Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman stated. “His vision and skill enriched the world with great film and television content and he leaves a tremendous legacy, especially here at Columbia Pictures. We are honored to memorialize him in this way and look forward to dedicating the new theater with his friends and family later this summer.”
Stay tuned for additional updates on Mr. Singleton. This article will be updated if the family releases more information to the public.
