After serving five hours of a three-day sentence in jail, famous 80s “Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider was released spoke about his experiences in the penal system. He also shared his thoughts about being a conservative actor in Hollywood.
Schneider spoke exclusively to Fox News about his experiences in both areas. He said that his time in the penal syst was eye opening, nothing less than life changing.
"Going to jail was nothing like I ever imagined it was going to be," Schneider, 58, said. "First of all, I was given no preferential treatment at all except they didn't detain me with the general population.”
He added, "I was arrested, I was searched, I was handcuffed, I had my wallet and my phone and they took my belt and shoelaces and it was put into a plastic bag.
"I never saw anything but people being treated with respect with dignity and with humor, which really surprised me, and whatever authority they needed to show in order to keep everybody safe,” adding that he was "so very impressed with every aspect of the penal system."
“It was totally life changing,” he said.
Of his experiences in court, however, were a different matter. Schneider told Fox News that he thought his conservative values may have cost him in court. He said that he supported former president Barak Obama because he felt it was his “duty as a United States citizen,” adding that he did vote for Trump and said he doesn’t “mind people knowing that.”
But he added, "I do think there's a bias against conservatives, Republicans, in Hollywood, but I think if you let that alter how you are, then I question how you are," he said. "If you believe it, speak it, live it."
He urged Republican entertainers to come out into the open and be bold about their values. What do you think of this? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.
