On Thursday, February 7th, news broke that the longest-serving congressperson in U.S. history sadly passed away. Former representative John Dingell, who was also the husband of now congresswoman Debbie Dingell, died at 92 years old.
“Friends and colleagues know me and know I would be in Washington right now unless something was up,” Rep. Debbie Dingell said in a statement. “I am home with John and we have entered a new phase.”
“He is my love and we have been a team for nearly 40 years,” the congresswoman added. “I will be taking each day as it comes. We thank people for their friendship and support and ask for prayers and privacy during this difficult time.”
President Donald Trump offered his deepest sympathies to Mrs. Dingell shortly after her husband’s death. In his short statement, he praised Mr. Dingell’s contributions to America.
“Deepest sympathies to Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and the entire family of John Dingell,” President Trump said in a Tweet on Friday. “Longest serving Congressman in Country’s history which, if people understand politics, means he was very smart. A great reputation and highly respected man.”
His funeral arrangements are scheduled to fall on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14th. The service will be held at Holy Trinity Church. The President also ordered the White House flag to be lowered at half-staff in honor of the former congressman.
Please pray for the Dingell family during this difficult time. Mr. Dingell will be greatly missed as he was a great service to our country!
