On Monday, former Vice President Joe Biden made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in order to promote his new book, "Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose."
During the interview, the talk show host asked Biden about his thoughts on the current administration. Biden said that he has had some contact with the current administration, though it has been limited.
He said, "The former vice president shouldn't be criticizing the president of the United States when you're abroad. I don't think we should ever do that. And I don't think we should be in the position of essentially talking about a different form of policy."
Ellen replied to his statement about having limited interaction with, "Until you run for president in 2020." To that statement, the audience gave a loud cheer and Ellen clasped her hands together in a begging manner.
The suspicion of Biden running for the highest office in 2020 has been circulating over the last year. This time, Biden responded to those rumors.
His immediate response was, "Thank you. Look, it's very flattering. And the one thing I think you know about me is that I say what I mean...I mean what I say."
He continued, "I really have not made up my mind. I've decided to devote the next couple of months to this book tour because what I don't want to do, is I don't want to conflate anything having to do with politics with my boy. I don't want to conflate anything to do with politics with the message I hope will be helpful to people going through what I've been through."
Biden then said that he has made no moves in the direction of running for president. He said, "I honest to God haven't made up my mind. I've done not a single thing to promote that or organizationally done anything."
Biden also said that while he is flattered, at this point he just wants to focus on his story about his son.
DeGeneres finished that portion of the interview by telling Biden that she hopes he considers running. She then jokingly added that she hopes either herself or Oprah would be his running mate.
