The news was just officially confirmed that Former Vice President Joe Biden will be running in the 2020 presidential election. On Thursday morning, Biden revealed that he would be seeking the Democratic nomination.
The 76-year-old released a 3.5-minute video to talk about his reasons for running. In the video, rather than talking about policy issues, Biden talked about the white supremacist march in Charlottesville, VA in 2017.
Biden said, “We are in the battle for the soul of this nation. I believe history will look back on four years of this president and all he embraces as an aberrant moment in time. But if we give Donald Trump eight years in the White House, he will forever and fundamentally alter the character of this nation, who we are, and I cannot stand by and watch that happen.”
Following the announcement, former President Obama congratulated Joe. However, as Breitbart noted, he did not officially endorse him.
Obama’s spokeswoman Katie Hill wrote, “President Obama has long said that selecting Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008 was one of the best decisions he ever made. He relied on the Vice President’s knowledge, insight, and judgment throughout both campaign and the entire presidency. The two forged a special bond over the last 10 years and remain close today.”
Later, President Trump took to social media to talk about Biden’s presidential bid.
He wrote, “Welcome to the race Sleepy Joe. I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign. It will be nasty- you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate!”
