In May of 2017, American television personality Jimmy Kimmel opened up about the heartbreaking details of his son’s birth. As reported earlier, Kimmel revealed that his youngest son, Billy, was born with a congenital heart disease that required him to have open-heart surgery at only 3 days old.
Billy, now 11 months old, had to undergo multiple surgeries to fix his heart condition. It has been an emotional year for Kimmel’s family, to say the least.
In a recent interview, Kimmel revealed how he and his wife felt after first finding out about their son’s heart defect, reported TODAY.
“There were secrets we kept from each other that we revealed only after the second surgery. The biggest one was that, I think subconsciously, we didn’t want to get too close to the baby because we didn’t know what was going to happen,” Kimmel said.
“I don't know if that's right or wrong or common or uncommon,” he continued. “But when I told her I was feeling that way, she said, 'Oh, I'm so happy you said that because I was feeling that way too, and I didn't want to express it.'"
Following Kimmel’s interview, several fans blasted the talk show host on social media. Many people said his feelings were “wrong” and some pointed out that if he were a conservative, the mainstream media would be targeting him for his statement.
Kimmel also made headlines recently after bringing his son on the live show. Watch the video below:
