Lead Singer of The Persuasions Dies at 75, Tributes Flooding In

The sad news was just confirmed that Jerry Lawson, the lead singer of the world-famous a cappella group The Persuasions, has passed away.

The lead singer was 75-years-old at the time of his death. According to Celebrity Access, he passed away at a hospice in Phoenix after a long illness.

The Persuasions started in the early 1960s as a “casual and nameless collection of singers on the basketball courts and front stoops of Brooklyn,” according to the Associated Press. In 1969, the band rose to fame when Frank Zappa signed them to his label.

Throughout their run as a band, The Persuasions performed with several top artists, including Joni Mitchell, Liza Minnelli, Paul Simon, and more.
