On Sunday, some heartbreaking news emerged about the Bush family. Former First Lady Barbara Bush revealed that she will not be seeking additional medical treatment in order to prolong her life.
The 92-year-old has been suffering from various illnesses in recent days and has now opted to focus on comfort care rather than intensive medical treatment. Their family released a statement about the decision.
It said, “Following a recent series of hospitalizations, and after consulting her family and doctors, Mrs. Bush, now age 92, has decided not to seek additional medical treatment and will instead focus on comfort care.”
They continued, “It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself- thanks to her abiding faith- but for others.”
Now, Barbara’s granddaughter, Jenna Bush Hager, has spoken out about her grandma’s failing health. The TODAY correspondent gave an emotional response to the public news.
She said, “She’s a fighter. She’s an enforcer. We’re grateful for her, for everybody’s prayers and thoughts, and just know the world is better because she’s in it.”
Jenna continued, “We are grateful for her. She’s the best grandma anybody could have ever had- or have.”
Jenna revealed that she and her twin sister had talked to their grandmother the night before.
She said, “She’s with my grandpa, the man she’s loved for over 73 years. They are surrounded by family, but I think the fact that they’re together and that he still says, ‘I love you Barbie’ every night is pretty remarkable.”
