Javid brings Mental Health Act ‘into the 21st Century’

In a statement to the House of Commons, health secretary Sajid Javid championed the arrival of a modernised Mental Health Act which will bring legislation “into the 21st Century”.

This long term plan will see mental health service investment “reach an extra £2.3 billion each year by 2023/24”

Labour’s front bench and former prime minister Theresa May welcomed the statement with May urging the government to “get these new provisions on the statute book as quickly as possible”.
