On Sunday night, a tragedy occurred at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when a gunman began shooting the crowd from a nearby 32nd-floor balcony. The shooting took place near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas strip.
By the time the SWAT team got to the shooter, Stephen Paddock, he had already shot and killed himself. Though initially police thought that Paddock had an accomplice, they now believe that this was a "lone wolf" incident.
So far, there have been 50 deaths and over 400 injuries reported. This attack is now marked as the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
Now, the headliner of the festival, Jason Aldean, is speaking up about the incident. The country music sensation was on stage performing his last song of his set, "When She Says Baby," when the shooting began.
Aldean posted on his Instagram account early Monday morning. Following the tragedy, he wanted to let everyone know that he was safe and that he was sending his sympathies to all of the victims.
He said, "Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don't know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate"
Jason's wife, Brittany Aldean, posted about the incident as well. She said that she believes angels were watching over her family, and she is praying for everyone involved in the tragedy.
Jake Owen, the other country music star who performed on stage before the massacre, spoke up about the tragedy as well. He said that everything was chaotic and felt like a scene out of a movie.
He said, "It got faster and faster, almost like it sounded like it was an automatic fire. You could hear it ringing off the tops of the rafters of the stage. That's when you saw people fleeing. At that point, everyone on stage just started running everywhere possible. It was pretty chaotic for sure."
Please continue praying for everyone involved in this tragedy. The victims, their families, and the country is in desperate need of your prayers. Please also be praying for Paddock's family. The gunman's brother just spoke out about this tragedy.
