Yesterday, country singer Jason Aldean returned to Las Vegas exactly one week after the October 1 shooting that killed at least 58 people, reported People. Aldean was on stage at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when Stephen Paddock opened fire.
Both Aldean and his pregnant wife, Brittany Kerr Aldean, arrived in Las Vegas on Sunday. Kerr Aldean, who visited survivors alongside her husband, recounted the day in an Instagram post.
“Feels surreal being back in Vegas today. Visiting some of the strongest people we have ever met… fighting the toughest battle of them all… for their lives,” wrote the 29-year-old.
She added, addressing the people they had visited, “You have helped us try to begin to start the healing process by seeing the strength each one of you have. Thank you for today. We will never forget.”
Kerr Aldean is expecting a baby boy due in December. It’s the first child for her and Aldean. He has two other children, two daughters ages 9 and 14, with ex-wife Jessica Ussery.
On Saturday night, Aldean addressed the shooting during an Saturday Night Live episode. He tried to explain his feelings about the destruction before playing a tribute song.
“Like everyone, I’m struggling to understand what happened that night, and how to pick up the pieces and start to heal,” said Aldean.
“So many people are hurting. There are children, parents, brothers, sisters, friends — they’re all part of our family. So I want to say to them: We hurt for you, and we hurt with you,” he continued. “When America is at its best, our bond and our spirit, it’s unbreakable.”
He also performed Tom Petty’s song “I Won’t Back Down” to commemorate the victims and survivors.
