The golf world is pouring in tributes of support this week to famous golfer Jarrod Lyle. The Australian just made a difficult announcement that he has chosen to cease his cancer treatment.

Sadly, the 36-year-old was diagnosed with cancer for a third time recently. He was first diagnosed with cancer as a teenager in 1999. Now, according to CNN, the acute myeloid leukemia has resurfaced and in recent days has taken a “severe downturn.”

The husband and father of two revealed that in the last few weeks he had lost his eyesight and has been unable to eat. His wife, Briony, took to social media to make the sad announcement about the family’s decision to end his cancer treatment and move to palliative care.

She wrote, “My heart breaks as I type this message. Earlier today Jarrod made the decision to stop active treatment and begin palliative care. He has given everything that he’s got to give, and his poor body cannot take anymore. We’ll be taking him closer to home in the next couple of days so he can finally leave the hospital.”

Briony said that Jarrod’s doctors can “no longer strive for a positive outcome.”

The athlete has overcome several obstacles throughout his life and is extremely respected in the golf world. In 2013, he overcame cancer for a second time and returned to the PGA Tour.

Now, several people are reaching out, pouring in support for Lyle:

Four-time major champion Ernie Els said he is “thinking and praying for you and your family now more than ever.”

Actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said, “Man this is a tough one. Sending so much light and strength to Jarrod and his Lyle family.”
