After Nikki Haley resigned as US ambassador to the United Nations, people began to conjecture that Ivanka Trump would take her place. President Trump seemed throw gas on the flames while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
He told reporters that he thought his daughter would be "incredible" as US ambassador to the United Nations. However, he said he didn't think he could nominate her because he'd be "accused of nepotism."
"I've heard a lot of names. I've heard Ivanka. How good would Ivanka be?" Trump said according to CNN. "I think Ivanka would be incredible, but it doesn't mean I'd pick her. Because I'd be accused of nepotism even though I'm not sure there's anybody more competent in the world."
Shortly after, Ivanka Trump set the record straight. In a tweet, she said that she's sure her father will choose a good replacement for Ambassador Haley, but that person will not be her.
"It is an honor to serve in the White House alongside so many great colleagues and I know that the President will nominate a formidable replacement for Ambassador Haley," wrote Ivanka. "That replacement will not be me."
Earlier in the day, she tweeted about Haley's departure. She praised Haley and the friendship she'd developed with her.
"Ambassador Haley has served America with dignity + distinction," wrote Ivanka. "She is a bold reformer and has been an unwavering champion of truth, principled realism and integrity within the United Nations. Jared and I are grateful for her friendship — a true blessing in our lives!"
