The 75th annual Golden Globe Awards, which took place on January 7th, was filled with a number of memorable moments as 2017’s top television stars were honored on stage. One Golden Globes winner who has managed to stay in the spotlight is Oprah Winfrey.
Aside from the chatter about her potential 2020 presidential run, Oprah was the first black woman to receive the Cecil B. DeMille award, according to CBS News. The special award honors those who have made “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”
Oprah gave an unforgettable acceptance speech, which was dedicated to young girls and women, that made national headlines. Her speech accompanied the theme of the Time’s Up movement as she encouraged women to speak up, speak truth, and share their story.
“A new day is on the horizon,” she said. “When that new day finally dawns, it will be because of the magnificent women and many of them are in this room tonight.”
"For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dared speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up," Winfrey continued, as she asked the audience for help so, "No one has to say 'Me too' again."
Ivanka praised Oprah for her “empowering and inspiring” Golden Globes speech. She also insisted that people come together in support of the Time’s Up movement.
However, several people slammed Ivanka for her praising remarks, including John Legend’s wife Christine Teigen, Seth Rogen’s wife Lauren Miller Rogen, actress Alyssa Milano, and actress Amber Tamblyn. All four women have been heavily involved in the #MeToo campaign.
