Ivanka Trump is one of the most successful businesswomen in the country. The 35-year-old advisor to the president has seen success in business, real estate, fashion, and now, politics. Now, Trump is opening up about an area of her life that does not get as much press attention: motherhood.
Ivanka Trump was interviewed by Dr. Oz for the upcoming episode of "The Dr. Oz Show," where she discussed her life, career, and family. During the interview, Trump opened up about something that she has struggled with behind the scenes: postpartum depression.
She revealed that with each of her three children with husband Jared Kushner, she experienced some level of postpartum depression, which can take root in a variety of forms. Dr. Oz followed up with the statement, asking her to clarify.
She said, "It was a very challenging, emotional time for me because I felt like I was not living up to my potential as a parent or as an entrepreneur and as an executive. And I had had such easy pregnancies that in some way the juxtaposition hit me even harder."
Postpartum depression can be identified with a plethora of symptoms including feeling overwhelmed, guilty, unable to sleep or concentrate, fear, etc. It is extremely common for women who have recently given birth but is not discussed often.
When asked why Ivanka was able to open up about something so personal, she replied, "Well I didn't know that I was. But you asked me a question and...it's incredibly important and look, I consider myself a very hard-changing person, I am ambitious, I'm passionate, I'm driven, but this is something that affects parents all over the country."
Ivanka's candidness and willingness to talk about her struggles is what many people love about her.
