Internet Fires Back After Rosie O'Donnell Violates Federal Law

This week has been busy for Congressmen and Senators on Capitol Hill as they have been working to pass an unprecedented tax reform. While many Americans are hopeful about the change, some went to extreme lengths to try to ensure that representatives vote “no” on the reform.

It is no surprise that Rosie O’Donnell would oppose anything that President Trump supports. This time, however, the Internet is calling her out for actually violating federal law in order to oppose the president.

On Tuesday night, O’Donnell sent out a series of tweets directed at Republican Senators. She said that she would be willing to pay up to $4 million in order to convince them to vote against their party.

While it may seem like a harmless tweet to some, it is actually a violation of federal law. The Daily Wire provided a look into the 18 USC 201(b).

It states: "Whoever—

(1)directly or indirectly, corruptly gives, offers or promises anything of value to any public official or person who has been selected to be a public official, or offers or promises any public official or any person who has been selected to be a public official to give anything of value to any other person or entity, with intent—

(A) to influence any official act; or

(B) to influence such public official or person who has been selected to be a public official to commit or aid in committing, or collude in, or allow, any fraud, or make opportunity for the commission of any fraud, on the United States; or

(C) to induce such public official or such person who has been selected to be a public official to do or omit to do any act in violation of the lawful duty of such official or person;

…shall be fined under this title or not more than three times the monetary equivalent of the thing of value, whichever is greater, or imprisoned for not more than fifteen years, or both, and may be disqualified from holding any office of honor, trust, or profit under the United States."

Although the tweets were most likely a joke, Twitter has been speaking up about O’Donnell’s inappropriate use of her platform. Below are a few of the responses.

For now, it does not appear like O'Donnell will be punished for her ignorant tweet. Let us know what you think about this! In other recent news, a star athlete just gave away a $10M home to a Christian camp for children with disabilities!
