On Friday, February 9, the 2018 Winter Olympics officially began. Hundreds of athletes, representing nearly 100 countries around the world, gathered in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
While the Opening Ceremonies took place on Friday night, some events began earlier in the week. On Thursday, curlers took the ice to compete in their preliminary rounds.
Though this round of the event was relatively mundane, there was one aspect of it that had the Internet rolling with laughter. Twitter called out one of the U.S. team members, Matt Hamilton, for having a doppelgänger.
Matt Hamilton is competing with his sister, Rebecca Hamilton, in mixed doubles. When the siblings took the ice, the Internet immediately pointed out his resemblance to Nintendo's famous character, Mario.
After the image started circulating, the U.S. Olympic Team posted about the resemblance on Twitter as well, taking the joke even further.
Later, the athlete laughed about it on his own social media platform:
What do you think about Hamilton's dopplegänger?! Do you think he looks like Mario? Let us know! In other recent news, a popular pizza place is under fire after rat feces were found baked into their crust.
