Over the weekend, a great tragedy took place in Indonesia. A 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck the coast of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, which triggered a massive tsunami — a scenario which authorities are referring to as a “twin disaster.”

The most recent reports indicate that at least 405 people have been confirmed dead. The death toll jumped from initial reports of 384 people. Unfortunately, it’s possible that the death toll will continue to rise in upcoming days.

According to CNN, hundreds of other victims were injured and had to be treated in local hospitals. More than 2 dozen people were also reported missing.

Additionally, an extensive amount of destruction was caused to nearby properties and land. The powerful quake and raging waters damaged a hospital, other buildings, and surrounding urban areas.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information is released to the public. Stay tuned as details continue to emerge over the next few days.
