Technology is advancing at an alarming rate. The world we know today is vastly different than it was even a few years ago.
As consumers, the advancement in technology also comes with risks. A major retailer has just announced that their company has had their data breached. For you as a consumer, this means your credit card information could possibly have been stolen.
"Macy's says cyber-thieves hacked the accounts of thousands of the retailer's online customers, compromising people's full names as well as their credit card numbers and expiration dates," reported CBS News.
Macy's is one of the most well known retail stores in America. Each year, millions of transactions are made at the store and customers across the nation have handed out their credit card information. Sadly, those same customers coupled potentially have their information used without their consent.
"We are aware of a data security incident involving a small number of our customers," a Macy's spokesperson said in a statement to CBS MoneyWatch. "We have investigated the matter thoroughly, addressed the cause and, as a precaution, have implemented additional security measures."
Be sure to watch your credit card statements for any suspicious transactions. It may be a good idea to hire a credit monitoring service if you feel your information is likely to have been hacked.
