As soon as the engagement announcement between Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle was made public, the world went wild. Fans began trying to figure out every single detail of their relationship including wedding plans, their favorite dates, and where it all began.
For the last two years since they began dating, they have kept one thing a secret: who the friend was that introduced them. The mystery matchmaker had reportedly set the two up on a blind date and had a feeling that they would hit it off. She was right.
After their engagement announcement, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said in their first joint interview that their meeting was not an accident. Harry said, "We were introduced by a secret friend, who we will protect her privacy."
People had speculated several options as the person that should win "friend of a lifetime" award. People suspected that the friend was Meghan's best friend, designer Jessica Mulroney. Others thought it could have been designer Misha Nonoo, or perhaps Markus Anderson.
Now, however, E News was able to confirm who the real matchmaker was. They confirmed on Wednesday that Harry's childhood friend, Violet von Westenholz, played cupid in the royal love story. According to the source, Violet's dad is very close to Prince Charles and she has always been close with Prince Harry.
The "well-placed source" that revealed the name to E News said, "Harry was having a really hard time finding anyone. It's hard enough finding someone new to date. He can hardly go on Tinder or a dating app like normal people, but to meet someone that you can actually connect with, that was proving to be almost impossible...It was something he had confided to his closest friends about; he was ready to meet someone but it was so hard to actually find the right person."
Violet met Meghan Markle when the former was doing PR work for the fashion house Ralph Lauren.
The source said, "Meghan had been a part of the London social scene for a while and had slotted into the high society set really easily. And so when Harry told Violet he was having trouble finding someone, Violet said she might just have the perfect girl for him."
In her recent interview, Meghan talked about that first date in 2016.
She said, "It was definitely a set-up. It was a blind date. I didn't know much about him and so the only thing I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was, I had one question, I said, 'Was he nice?'"
Harry said, "I'd never, never even heard about her until this friend said 'Meghan Markle.' I was like, 'Right okay, give me, give me a bit of background, like what's going on here?' When I walked into that room and saw her and there she was sitting there, I was like, 'Okay, well I'm going to have to really up my game here.'"
Thanks to Violet, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will tie the knot this upcoming May. Congrats to the happy couple! In other recent news, an iconic American store just revealed abrupt closure of 182 locations.
