A truly heartbreaking story is being reported today. A member of a famous singing duo has announced he has a terrible disease.

"Singer Steve Lawrence revealed Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease. In a letter sent by his spokesman Howard Bragman, Lawrence confirmed the diagnosis, saying that he felt he needed to speak out in light of recent rumors and media inquiries," reported Fox.

Steve said in the letter that he is living my life, going out in public and trying to spend as much time as possible with my family and friends while I am still able to engage and enjoy,” he wrote.

Steve is 83-years-old. He says he's not looking for any pity or sympathy since he has lived an incredible life filled with wonderful memories and amazing people. His wife, Eydie, died in 2013. She was the other half to the duo of Steve and Eydie.

"Lawrence and Gorme helped keep alive the legacy of the American Broadway songbook at a time when rock became dominant. They were known for their frequent appearances on TV variety and talk shows, in night clubs, and on the stages of Las Vegas," reported Fox.

Fans and fellow celebrities reached out on social media after the news broke.

"Wishing my good friend Steve Lawrence the best after hearing about his Alzheimer’s diagnosis today. Stay strong Steve!" wrote Larry King on his personal Twitter account.
