One of the biggest names in the music industry has just confessed to battling a major drug addiction and overcoming depression, in recent years. The music mogul known as Timbaland opened up about his experiences in a recent interview.

Timbaland revealed he started taking drugs in his thirties as a way to combat nerve damage and pain. However, after his marriage ended and his career hit a slump, he soon started abusing pain pills.

“I was on drugs, dude,” the 45-year-old music veteran shared with Rolling Stone. “I was on OxyContin.”

Finally, after suffering a near-death experience, Timbaland decided to change his ways. He said he had a terrible overdose and even saw "the light" before coming back to consciousness.

“All I can tell you is that there was a light,” Timbaland said of the life-changing event three years ago. “I woke up trying to catch my breath, like I was underwater. But through that whole thing, I saw life — I saw where I would be if I don’t change, and where I would be if I did.”

After the incident, Timbaland was convicted to regain control of his life and make the most of his opportunities. He has since lost nearly 40 pounds through diet and exercise and is seeing more success than ever in his music.
